Tail Docking Is Animal Cruelty

Tail docking is animal cruelty without any doubt. You might have seen some Yorkies that may have had their tails docked. Tail docking means that they surgically removed a portion of the tail shortly after birth.

Tail docking, or surgically removing a portion of a dog’s tail, is controversial and banned in some countries. However, the United States has not banned it. Instead, they generally consider it a cosmetic procedure. The dog breeders, for some reason, do not feel the pain of the little puppy when they dock its tail. The government should ban this animal cruelty immediately.

There are several reasons why they have not banned it in the United States. One reason is that the practice has a long history. It was originally done for practical purposes, such as to prevent injury during work or hunting. In addition, the American Kennel Club (AKC) and other organizations have historically recognized docked tails as a breed standard. This standard was for certain breeds, including Yorkies (Yorkshire Terriers) and other toy and terrier breeds. AKC should be ashamed of its indifference to this cruelty.

The practice of docking the tail has come under scrutiny in recent years, and there is growing evidence to suggest that it can be a painful and unnecessary procedure for puppies. Therefore, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) does not recommend it for cosmetic purposes and encourages people to consider the potential risks and benefits before deciding to dock a dog’s tail.

Ban Tail Docking

There is no doubt that tail docking is a painful procedure for puppies. Puppies have a well-developed sense of touch and can feel pain like humans, and it involves cutting through skin, muscle, and bone.
In addition to the potential pain associated with tail docking, there is evidence to suggest that the procedure may have long-term effects on a puppy’s physical and behavioral development. For example, some studies have found that dogs with their tails docked may have altered gait and balance. As a result, they may be more prone to injuries. There is also some evidence to suggest that it may impact a puppy’s social behavior. It is so because the tail is an important means of communication and expression for dogs.

Despite this, tail docking is not currently banned in the United States, and it is up to individual states to regulate the practice. Some states have enacted laws restricting or prohibiting tail docking, while others do not have any specific regulations.
